1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:

1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:

Well at first glance I wasn’t sure what I would be able to get out of this. It appears to be just a title.  Nothing really too inspiring.

But thinking about it for a few minutes I managed to get a little something…probably not the most powerful or insightful first entry in a blog, but hey…

The question I asked was: ‘what does the word proverb mean to me?’

The odd thing was that the first thing it brought up was an image.

It conjured up an image of a dark, dusty library with books of ancient wisdom stacked up all around.

Examining myself, I have begun to see the importance of the words ‘ancient wisdom’.  Of course I am aware that there are many modern proverbs from great people but there is something strong and secure about proverbs that have proven the test of time.

I have been (am) one of those people who like to post quotes on social media like Facebook or Twitter and I am often reminded how old some of them are.  Somehow the older they are the more meaningful they appear to be.

So for me a proverb is some sort of ancient wisdom.  Something that can reveal an illuminating truth to guide me through the maze of life.   Like the roots of an oak tree, Proverbs bring nutrition, strength and stability to the body.

Surprised myself with that definition! I can’t wait to get started into this little project and explore the wisdom contained within this book.

Let it be nutrition, strength and stability.

Bring it!
